DIMENSIONAL RANGE:
Like ISO 13623 itself, this isn’t a component standard with a fixed NPS/DN table; the real design envelope is the one already noted in the description, a safety-class-based design factor running from 0.50 up to 0.80 depending on the consequence category of the pipeline’s location and the fraction of specified minimum yield strength it’s allowed to use. Wall thickness, diameter and MAOP are all derived project-by-project from that design factor together with the line pipe material properties (ISO 3183), rather than being tabulated in ISO 13623 itself. We treat the design factor and the associated location/consequence class, not a diameter range, as the real boundary condition we check first when a pipeline design crosses into ISO 13623 territory.
DESCRIPTION:
Covers safety-class-based design factors (0.50 to 0.80 depending on location consequence), cathodic protection requirements for buried/submerged sections, pressure control and overpressure protection, and pigging provisions. The scope boundary with ISO 15649/13703 is explicit and important: once you cross from the plant’s piping limit onto the transportation pipeline, you’re in ISO 13623 territory, with different design factors and often a different regulatory regime.
