Intro

Onboard repairs, drydock periods and off-hire time transform ship stops into extremely expensive operations, where unfinished jobs and rework must be avoided as much as possible. Flowazur’s onboard experience, combined with our engineering knowledge, helps superintendents and shipowners assess the real condition of the piping system. This means drydock work is properly scheduled, and documentation for major jobs is reviewed by specialized senior engineers.

When This Service Comes Into Play

This service applies when assessing marine systems and planning piping work ahead of a drydock, and when evaluating retrofit projects that involve machinery replacement or upgrades.

What We Do

We inspect spool pipes, supports, flanges and valves to define the drydock work scope. When a new machinery model is being considered, we assess installation feasibility –  evaluating auxiliary systems, piping interfaces, and available space to determine whether the new model can be integrated. Building on that same onboard inspection, we then deliver a full engineering study to integrate the new machinery into the existing marine system.

OPTION A) Methodology - Piping Conditions & Drydock Works

  1. Document Analysis — Review all documents received from the client.
  2. Piping Inspection — Inspect the onboard piping system.
  3. Deficiency Recording — Note all deficient parts (remarks) identified during inspection.
  4. Drydock Work List — Compile the refitting work list.

OPTION B) Methodology - Major Retrofit (New Machinery)

  • Document Analysis — Review all documents received from the client.
  • Piping Inspection — Inspect the onboard piping system.
  • Data & Onboard Measurement Collection — Document the existing system with photos and notes.
  • Engineering Study — Produce the engineering study for new machinery integration.

When inspection reveals the opportunity, or the need, to integrate new technology during the drydock, such as an alternative fuel system, fuel cells, or a machinery upgrade, we carry that assessment directly into our Advanced Systems Integration engineering. Same team, no handover, no loss of information.

A: A typical port-call survey takes about one week: one to two days of physical inspection, followed by roughly four days to compile the condition report and drydock work list.
