DIMENSIONAL RANGE:

ISO 4200 organizes outside diameters into two product groups: general-purpose tubes, split into three series depending on how many standardized fittings and accessories exist for that OD, and precision tubes, split into two series on the same logic. Wall thickness is handled through seven preferred grades, A through G, with grades A to C aimed mainly at stainless products and grade D reserved for non-alloy and alloy steel tube that isn’t meant to be matched against butt-welding fittings. The table stays dimensionally consistent with EN 10220 up to a 65 mm wall thickness, and its OD/WT combinations line up with what API 5L specifies for line pipe, which is also why it tracks closely with the ASME B36.10M size range (NPS 1/8 through NPS 80, DN 6 to DN 2000) even though the two standards belong to different systems. We’d still check the full table before quoting an exact upper OD or thickness limit on a spec sheet, since the freely available scope summaries don’t reproduce every row.

DESCRIPTION:

IMPORTANT NOTES:

It’s a dated but still active standard (currently under review), it defines geometry only, not material grade, pressure rating, or manufacturing tolerances beyond dimensions, which are covered by separate product standards (e.g., ISO 3183 for line pipe).
